1987
  • Made an immediate contribution in his first stint in the majors after being called up July 15.
  • Collected the only two hits off Philadelphia's Kevin Gross in his debut July 16, tripling and homering and scoring the winning run in the ninth inning.
  • Was named NL Player of the Week for his first week in the big leagues after hitting .500 (7-14) with two homers and three RBI in his first four games.
  • Hit safely in 10 of his first 12 games, including five multi-hit contests.

  • Was promoted to Houston July 29 and drove in a run in four of his first five games.
  • Made 19 starts at third base for the Astros.
  • Struggled offensively, batting .181 with Houston.

  • Led the Astros in games (161), at-bats (585) and doubles (31) in his first full major league season.
  • Finished second on the team in RBI (72), runs (71) and hits (149).
  • Hit safely in 22 of his first 28 games.
  • Set a career high with five RBI at St. Louis May 30.
  • Baseball America judged him the NL infielder with the best throwing arm.
  • Finished second among league third basemen with 126 putouts and 335 assists, and was third with a .958 fielding percentage.
